Frogs vs. Toads
One of the most common questions about frogs is whether they are the same or different from toads. Good question!!
While both frogs and toads are amphibians (they can be found in water and also on land), there are a few key differences:
1. Frogs generally have smooth skin while toads have bumpy skin (and, yes, it is a myth that toads can cause warts on those who touch their bumpy skin).
2. Frogs typically have longer and strong legs, good for leaping, while toads have shorter legs, better for walking and hopping.
3. Frogs generally live in or near water, while toads can live near water but generally are found further from ponds and other water sources.
So, similar but also different. And here is another tidbit to chew on: In the way scientists classify animal species, all toads are frogs, but not all frogs are toads. Hmmmmm . . .
